NEO Maroc

The first-ever domestic car in Morocco debuted spectacularly at Gitex Africa, the continent's premier technology event that brings together investors and emerging digital businesses, and it recently made its public debut on Rabat's streets.

Enormous capacity for production

Although one could currently count these marvelous prototypes on one hand, Morocco is preparing to fire up the production furnace.

Standing tall in the center of the capital, a $15 million state-of-the-art manufacturing facility is ready to crank out about 7,000 of these sought-after vehicles, which are expected to grace Moroccan roads this year.

Leadership in the automotive industry

Naturally, Morocco has a long history of producing automobiles. Morocco is putting out the gas to take the lead in the automotive industry. Having manufactured vehicles for Renault since 1959, Morocco already holds the title of being Africa's top exporter of automobiles, having produced the Renault Kangoo, Dacia Logan, and Dacia Sandero.

The kingdom is planning to introduce a line of fiberglass cars, with an eye toward both domestic markets in the region and European markets across the Mediterranean.

An overall glance at NEO Maroc

These mechanical monsters were first given life on the Ain Aouda assembly line, and their prices ranged from $15,000 to $20,000, depending on the features.

Despite using conventional fuel and paying homage to the iconic American military jeeps of the 1940s, the Neo's complete recyclability lessens its environmental impact. Morocco's national green initiatives center on an ambitious goal of greening 52 percent of its electricity mix by 2030, despite the country not having a set net-zero target.

Future hydrogen cars

Among these environmentally progressive plans is the introduction of another revolutionary Moroccan car, which will debut in 2025 as the country's first hydrogen-powered car (developed by NamX). Another Moroccan-bred prototype, the NamX Hydrogen Utility Vehicle (HUV), has a central hydrogen fuel tank.

Features of trailblazing automobile

With its six detachable capsules, this innovative car offers an amazing driving range and quick refueling times. The HUV and other hydrogen-powered fuel cell electric vehicles are clean, green vehicles that only emit warm air and water vapor when driving. Their efficiency surpasses that of conventional combustion engines by a wide margin.
